On Friday 8th June, children from Holbrook’s forces family club, Full Force, went to the Royal Armouries Museum at Fort Nelson, Portsdown Hill near Fareham.
As a continuation of their own ceramic poppy endeavours at school, the children were taken to see the amazing Wave installation which is available to view until the 24th June. This is from the original display, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London created to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the start of World War 1 and every British and Colonial life lost at the Front during the conflict.
The children were able to closely view the poppies, each one unique and handcrafted and the display could be seen from various aspects around the fort. The children then produced their own pastel drawings with a wave theme and will have the opportunity to produce their own felt poppies back at school. Combined with the decorative dragon cannon, ‘hands on’ machine gun, fortified ramparts and series of mysterious underground tunnels, an informative and fun time was had by all.
